Our city officials make big decisions during public meetings every day—but the vast majority receive no media coverage and produce minimal records. Interested in learning how to keep tabs? Join us at the Harold Washington Library on Wednesday, October 30, from 5:30-7:30 PM.

This two-hour workshop will introduce you to the Documenters community through an overview of Chicago’s civic landscape. Join us to participate in skill-based exercises designed to help you source verifiable information, fact-check your work and understand your rights through Open Meetings law. These are core skills that can be used on a range of paid Documenter assignments.

Our community-building workshop will conclude with a learning review activity to make sure you feel ready to document, and once you complete the activity you’ll be eligible to apply for assignments. You’ll check in and access the activity on Documenters.org, so bring a device, if possible.

This training is designed for new Documenters as part of our new onboarding process, but enrolled Documenters at any level of involvement can use the training to brush up on old skills or get re-acquainted with the Documenters community.
