DESCRIPTION:**Akron City Council is made up of 13 elected members** with o
 ne from each of Akron's 10 wards and three at-large council members. \n\n*
 *The body is responsible for the deliberation and vote** for all ordinance
 s and resolutions that come before the board through a committee process. 
 \n\n**Council meets each Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers**
  on the third floor of the Akron Municipal Building\, 166 South High Stree
 t. City Council does not meet when a national holiday falls on a Monday\, 
 and recesses the month of August and the last two weeks of December.  \n\n
 **City Council operates under a committee system** with 9 standing committ
 ees. Committee members are appointed by Council leadership.\n\nMatters tha
 t come before council are assigned by the President to the appropriate com
 mittee. The agenda and new legislation list summarizes all legislation to 
 be considered by each committee that week.\n\nCommittees hold open meeting
 s on Monday afternoons to discuss the issues before them and make reports 
 and recommendations to the full body of council.\n\nCommittees meet as nee
 ded and only when they have pending legislation.\n\n**A caucus and special
  meetings of city council** may be called by the Mayor\, the President of 
 Council or by four council members\, provided 24 hours notice has been giv
 en to each council member and to the public. Only items on that notice may
  be considered at the Special Meeting.
