Hey folks! It's Monday, October 14, 2024 and I'll be covering this evening's @CleCityCouncil meeting live for @cledocumenters & @signalcleveland. #CLEdocumenters
05:39 PM Oct 14, 2024 CDT
The meeting begins at 7 pm, in about 20 minutes. - you can stream it here: …… or watch live on TV-20 youtube.com/@ClevelandCity…

The meeting started on time. The first 5 people called for public comment did not appear. Brent from Ward 15 talked about the new Marion Seltzer School at Cudell Park, asking that Council work to return the ownership of park land not used for the school itself to the city.
A Ward 15 resident spoke next on the proposed gas station at West Blvd and Madison avenue. Arguments for and against this project dominated public comment during the last city council meeting I covered on September 16th: https://x.com/DDutchCreative/status/1835821012086034847
Christine, the ward 15 resident, spoke out against the gas station proposal. "A gas station does not belong next to a park and a school."
During presentations, A science teacher and her family were called up and honored for her service (I'm so sorry, I couldn't catch her name 😔). Tim Wells, a manager of recreation for the city of Cleveland, was honored for his long career as he retires.
The Legislation portion of the evening was quick. First Reading Legislation: 1114-1117, 1122 and 1123 were all referred to subcommittees for review. 1119-2024 and 1120-2024 (both on using casino funds to fund Five Points Senior Meal Program) were read and passed unanimously.
Second Reading Legislation Read and passed unanimously: 937-2024 - contract regarding airport 944-2024 - contract concerning roadwork 1014-2024 - loan agreement with Neighborhood Healthcare Inc. 1051-2024 - about SmartShopper program for city employees
There were quite a few announcements that I watched and re-watched to get all the details 😅 Howse-Jones announced a Living in Place senior event this Thursday at 10am, and a legal advice clinic at the Hough library at 10am this Saturday, Oct 19.
Richard Starr will be speaking at a City Club panel tomorrow at 11:30am. Members of Council will be there in support. cityclub.org
