The Citizens’ Advisory Council on Equity was first appointed in July 2020 to obtain community input on the full range of equity issues in Cuyahoga County and, as necessary, to support the work of the county executive, County Council, the Equity Commission and/or Human Rights Commission. It is composed of 17 county residents. Fifteen are appointed by the executive and confirmed by council. No more than three of those executive appointees can be county employees. The council president appoints two other members. Members serve without compensation, except for actual expenses.

The duties of the Citizens’ Advisory Council on Equity shall include:

  • Acting as a resource for information and advice for the Equity Commission and the Human Rights Commission
  • Encouraging community outreach and public participation in the development of equity goals, strategies and programs
  • Providing recommendations and input to the executive and council regarding the development of equity goals, strategies and programs
  • Meeting publicly on a quarterly basis to provide a forum for the public to offer ideas and recommendations regarding equity
  • Upon completing its work and at such other times as may be appropriate, the Citizens’ Advisory Council on Equity shall provide a report of findings and recommendations for policies and programs from the Advisory Council and collected from the public regarding equity to the Executive and the Council. This report shall also be made available to the public online

Attending in person?

We add two hours of pay ($36) to the assignment. For County Council meetings, complimentary parking for the public is available in the attached garage at 900 Prospect. A skywalk extends from the garage to provide additional entry to the headquarters from the 5th floor parking level of the garage. Please see the clerk to obtain a complimentary parking pass. Council Chambers is equipped with a hearing assistance system. If needed, please see the clerk to obtain a receiver. We do not know if the parking comp applies to meetings of this body, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. If you give it a shot, let us know what happens!
