Board meeting (in-person only)
Fair Employment Wage Board
Thursday, April 24, 2025
1:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. EDT
1910 Carnegie Ave Cleveland, OH 44115 (Directions)
OhioMeansJobs Cleveland-Cuyahoga County
This City of Cleveland board met for the first time in 2025 despite being formed more than two decades ago. It is charged with overseeing the city’s wage theft law and other laws designed to protect workers. At a February 2025 meeting, the board decided to meet monthly despite being required to meet only quarterly. Learn more about the board from Signal Cleveland’s Olivera Perkins.
Note: This board meets only in person. We add two hours of pay ($36) to the assignment. It may be helpful for your coverage to record audio of the meeting, but it is not a requirement of the assignment. Also, this is our first time covering this board. We don’t quite know what to expect. But, lead with your curiosity and feel free to describe the scene and note if something is confusing or unclear.
Board members:
- Matt Ashton, board chair, founder and owner of Lekko Coffee in Ohio City
- Bishop Eugene Ward Jr., board vice chair, executive pastor and CEO of Greater Love Baptist Church
- Kate Warren, board secretary, special assistant to the chief of integrated development for the city
- Camilo Villa, board treasurer, Northern Ohio coordinator for SEIU Local 1
